There is no low too low for President Trump, who’s now set his sights on removing the protections for 800,000 children nationally and the over 9,800 right here in Maryland, who were brought here by parents seeking a better life for their families.
Trump is attempting to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting the immigration status of these young people in jeopardy, many of whom are now working adults with families of their own. This is an unbelievably cruel move, and one that I firmly believe is not who we are as a country.
Join me in calling for Congress to get to work, and pass a new stand-alone DREAM Act, so that these young people will no longer need to live in fear and uncertainty about their immigration status in a country they’ve grown up in.
These DREAMers are as much a part of our nation and our communities as any American. They are our friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
This callous move by the Trump administration is a far cry from the party of Lincoln, and the silence of many prominent Republicans in denouncing this planned action is disturbing.
In Baltimore County, we are embracing these young people who are contributing to the American dream and standing up to Donald Trump when he threatens our friends and neighbors.
As leaders, we must stand with them to ensure that they can continue to live without the fear of being uprooted from their homes as we continue to pursue responsible and thoughtful immigration reform across the United States.
