Hello, and Happy Labor Day, Sherry!
I hope you’ve been able to enjoy a safe and fun holiday weekend. I also hope you’ve taken a moment to honor the hardworking men and women across our country that Labor Day is meant to celebrate.
Our teachers preparing their classrooms for the beginning of a new school year, our police officers, firefighters and first responders who show up to their jobs every day with a duty to keep us safe, and all of our Brothers and Sisters in the labor movement.
Because of the work and organizing by labor to advance fairness for workers in this country, we’re able to enjoy things like the two day weekend, the minimum wage, safe workplace conditions, benefits, and a 40 hour work week — just to name a few.
Our work to continue promoting the cause for working men and women isn’t over. We still need to continue to push forward for better benefits, a $15 minimum wage, and fulfilling our promises to workers after a career of hard work.
So as you’re wrapping up your long weekend, take some time to remember all that’s been done by the labor movement to ensure dignity and respect for working men and women, while also recognizing there is more work to be done.
